Small-Batch Nut Butters · Telford, Pennsylvania · Since 2012
Nutty Novelties
A farmers’ market experiment that turned into a Pennsylvania pantry full of spoon-worthy peanut and nut butters.
Nutty Novelties makes its nut butters in small batches in Telford, Pennsylvania, with a simple philosophy: let the nuts taste like nuts, then add just enough flavor to make things interesting.
A farmers’ market table becomes the beginning of something much bigger.
Where It Began
A small farmers’ market idea in Lansdale starts with trail mix—not peanut butter.
It Didn’t Start With Peanut Butter.
When Caleb Mangum launched Nutty Novelties at the Lansdale Farmers’ Market in 2012, the original concept was a build-your-own trail mix bar.
The idea was fun. The customers, however, had other plans.
When the trail mix concept did not take off the way Caleb hoped, a friend suggested experimenting with natural nut butters instead.
That suggestion changed the business. The team began testing recipes, customers responded, and what started as a farmers’ market experiment gradually became a dedicated nut butter company.
Nutty Novelties begins at the Lansdale Farmers’ Market.
Trail mix gives way to small-batch natural nut butter.
The company moves fully into pre-packaged nut butters and wholesale.
The nut butters are still made in Pennsylvania in small batches.
Built at the Farmers’ Market
Where Customers Helped Shape the Business.
A farmers’ market gives a maker something a supermarket shelf cannot: immediate feedback.
Customers could taste the products, ask questions, and tell the maker exactly what they liked.
That environment encouraged experimentation. Classic peanut butter could sit beside cinnamon, chocolate, or something much more unexpected.
The market table became both a storefront and a test kitchen—one batch and one conversation at a time.
Make a batch. Bring it to market. Let the customers tell you what stays.
The early Nutty Novelties recipeThe Nutty Novelties Approach
Nutty First. Flavor Second.
The goal is not to bury the nuts beneath sugar and flavoring. The nut itself is supposed to remain the main event.
Made in Smaller Runs
The products are made in smaller production runs rather than treated like anonymous mass-market spreads.
Simple Ingredients
The focus stays on recognizable ingredients and naturally nutty flavor.
Flavor Without Overdoing It
Flavored varieties add interest without turning every jar into candy.
The Nut Still Leads
Even the more unusual varieties are built so peanuts, almonds, or other nuts remain the foundation.
Selected for a Reason
Why We Chose Nutty Novelties.
Not every maker in Gift With a Story needs a century-old company history.
Part of the American food story is being written right now by small makers willing to start at a farmers’ market, experiment with an idea, and build something locally.
Nutty Novelties is especially meaningful because it is a Pennsylvania maker producing its nut butters in Telford, not far from our own corner of southeastern Pennsylvania.
The jars also make excellent gifts because they invite experimentation: spread them on bread, dip a pretzel, bake with them, stir them into breakfast, or simply reach for a spoon.
The story of American food isn’t finished. Some of our favorite chapters are being made nearby.

A Modern Maker · A Familiar Pantry Staple
OLD FAVORITE.NEW STORY.
Peanut Butter Never Needed Reinventing.
Peanut butter already belongs to the American pantry. It has been spread on sandwiches, toast, and crackers for generations.
Nutty Novelties does not need to replace that familiar tradition. Instead, it asks what happens when a small Pennsylvania maker takes that everyday food and starts experimenting.
The answer might be cinnamon, chocolate, butterscotch, or even habanero honey. The pantry staple stays familiar. The story becomes new.
