A Story Worth Knowing.
Before the pancake mix, there was a water-powered gristmill serving a rural New York community.
Judge Charles Kellogg built the original New Hope mill in 1823 in the small hamlet of New Hope, New York.
Like gristmills throughout early America, it existed because nearby farms and families needed a dependable place to turn harvested grain into flour and meal for the table.
Waterpower drove the equipment, wagons brought grain to the mill, and the building became part of the everyday agricultural life of the community.
