A Story Box Collection
Fruit butter begins with a remarkable transformation: fresh orchard fruit is slowly cooked until it becomes rich, concentrated and naturally smooth. This collection explores that Pennsylvania tradition through four flavors from one historic family maker.
The Pennsylvania Fruit Butter Collection begins with Bauman’s celebrated apple butter and opens the pantry to peach, pear, plum, cherry, blueberry and other fruit-filled possibilities.
The recipient receives four 9-ounce jars, chosen especially for them. Select four different flavors to create a tasting collection, combine familiar favorites with unexpected discoveries or repeat the varieties they love most.
Behind every jar is the Bauman family’s connection to Sassamansville, Pennsylvania, where fruit has been pressed, cooked and preserved since 1892. Bauman’s uses Pennsylvania-grown produce whenever possible and prepares its fruit butters without pectin, thickeners, preservatives or additives.
This is more than a box of spreads. It is a journey through the orchard, the farmhouse pantry and one Pennsylvania family’s enduring way of preserving the harvest.

Meet the Maker
Four flavors tell four different orchard stories, but every jar in this collection comes from the same Pennsylvania family tradition.
Sassamansville, Pennsylvania
The Bauman family’s story began in 1892, when John Bauman installed a cider press to serve farms around Sassamansville. Around the turn of the century, the family began making apple butter from an old family recipe.
What began with apples grew into a remarkable pantry of fruit butters. Today, Bauman’s offers apple alongside apricot, blueberry, cherry, cranberry pear, honey peach, peach, pear, plum, strawberry and other seasonal varieties.
Bauman’s cooks clean fruit into a naturally smooth, concentrated spread without adding pectin, thickeners, preservatives or artificial additives. Pennsylvania-grown produce is used whenever possible, supporting the farms and orchards surrounding the family’s Montgomery County factory.
We chose Bauman’s because it preserves more than fruit. Every jar carries forward a Pennsylvania Dutch food tradition, a connection to regional agriculture and more than a century of family ingenuity.
Visit Bauman’s Apple ButterBehind the Tradition
Despite its name, fruit butter contains no dairy butter. The name describes its texture: fruit is cooked slowly until moisture disappears, natural flavors concentrate and the finished spread becomes exceptionally smooth.
Apple butter became closely associated with Pennsylvania Dutch kitchens as a practical and delicious way to preserve an abundant harvest. It could be served on bread, biscuits and pancakes, paired with meat or incorporated into baked goods long after the orchard season ended.
This collection carries that pantry tradition beyond apples, showing how different fruits develop their own color, character and concentrated flavor when prepared in the fruit-butter style.
